A week has gone by and I haven't painted. I've been rearranging, organizing and even filing! But not painting... There is a huge 48 x 36 canvas sitting on my easel with dioxizine purple filling most of it. Across the top about a twelve inch strip of blues. It is patiently waiting for red roots and has been for a couple of weeks. It has moved around the studio from one place to another as I've shifted furniture and art supplies all around searching for the perfect feng shui. I may have found it. At least I'm satisfied so far with how it looks. Actual painting will determine if it is truly functional.
This week I began cleaning my studio bathroom. The previous tenants were not concerned too much with such things. I discovered that the sink faucet had been leaking for quite some time. My landlord kindly had a new sink, faucet and cabinet installed. During that process I wondered if the worn and hopelessly nasty linoleum would come up very easily if I put my finger in a very large hole and pulled. Turns out, yes, it came up very easily, and lo and behold, I created another project for myself. The floor is concrete underneath and so my plan is to clean it really well and leave it like it is (which is pretty cool looking to me), or paint it.
From the main room of my studio are now two doorways. One that leads into a little space I call the adjoining room from which one can enter the bathroom and/or the back room where I store unused canvases, paintings that have no where else to go, paintings that are drying, and various other lesser used and special purpose supplies. The other doorway from the main room directly enters the back room. I've been shopping for curtains to hang over the doorways because one didn't have a door in the first place and on the other the door opened opposite of the way I wanted it to so I took it off. I think I may have found a creative solution after looking at many different options and falling in love with a fairly impractical one.
That is what has been going on this week. I made a list of things to do and many got marked off. Although it seems that for every one that gets marked off, two more get added! Now excuse me while I go check off -- write blog post.
