He said, "Because you are an artist, Mom, and artist's make art." - Righty-o!

So I got out the new book of hand made papers that was still 3/4 empty, and the Inktense pencils, and started a new chapter.
Several weeks ago I shared that my art work was referred to as having a Folk Art quality. I find that so endearing. I like the word and all it implies to me. It seems friendly, casual, and down to earth. I like folks, I am a folk, and I like to make art for folks.
Folk Artist feels good to me even though my artwork may not precisely fit the expectations of the genre.
Because of this awareness, I checked out an extremely helpful book from the library called, "Decorative Folk Art" by Sybil Edwards. In it I found some of the best technical instruction for simple brushwork that I have ever seen. I haven't actually put it to conscious use yet, but it makes me enormously happy to know about it.
Between the acknowledgement of folkness, the book, and a sign I saw at the AZ Renaissance Faire, I have a little traditional heart symbol playing it's way out of me.

It did mutate a little...
Changes are bound to happen, and there are many in the works during this chapter of my life. Exciting times ahead, folks!
