The big front room has been painted not once but twice. At first it got painted a lovely cream color that matched perfectly with the flooring, and the color of the new desk and bookcases. Unfortunately when all the walls were painted it was too yellow for me. So then some of the walls got painted a pale gray. It made the room feel cooler and gave the look I had originally wanted. However, I kept a few walls the cream color and I really like the combination.
During the painting process, my husband built a wonderful work table for me. It is 4' x 6' and 35" tall. It has a shelf that extends across the bottom and it is on wheels. That part is fantastic! It gives me such flexibility. Over the past few days, I put together the L-shaped desk and two bookcases. Even with these very big furniture pieces there is still plenty of room. Having the back room for storage is a Godsend. Books, and paint supplies are now in place. I am ready to make art the next time I go to the studio!
It has been quite a process moving into this formerly retail space. Many have inquired if I will sell my work from my studio. This made me start thinking of the space differently, of how to make it appealing to the public, how the space looks to someone walking off the street, about product placement... Stop! I had to remind myself of my actual goal, which is to make art that will make me a better artist. If all goes well the end product will result in sales, but that is not the purpose of the space. The purpose is to have the room to experiment and produce so that my skills will improve and my artwork will grow and get better.
I have taken some pictures of Elation Art Studio, and I hope to share them here. However, also over the course of the past two weeks, my PC computer, which lasted 8 years, died after several dramatic, prolonged, and colorful death scenes. The good news is that I now have a new Mac, but since this is only my second day using it, I'm not quite sure how to transfer pictures from my camera. As I already delayed posting to my blog because of the other computer's unpredictability, I will post this without pics for now.
It is with great anticipation of sharing with you more and more, that I bid you a fond farewell. I hope that 2010 will become your best year yet!
