That evening I was completely overcome with exhaustion when I sat down in my car to go home! I became ever so grateful for all the workers in the past who struggled to make sure that breaks are mandatory. What a blessing!
After that the changes were not quite as dramatically obvious because for the most part we were all down aisles busily putting in the fixtures, such as pegs and shelves and glass dividers. That was a completely different sort of hard work. Hobby Lobby is big like Home Depot but carries supplies for art, crafts, and home decor among other things.
I have been greatly impressed with how organized and well planned everything is. I am very fortunate that my team leader, Shelly Morris, who is with us from the Phoenix store, is a kind and effective leader who treats us all with respect. She explains things very well and is patient with questions and mistakes while encouraging us all to work quickly and accurately. I am so happy to be working with her.
To my surprise I have enjoyed having someone tell me exactly what to do and how to do it. Shelly and the other team members are the experts who have done this many times before. All I have to figure out sometimes is how to do things in the most efficient and easy way for myself! I feel it is a great advantage to have this experience and I am eagerly learning everything I can about the process.
I am able to maintain my cheerful enthusiasm for the work every day because I am in my happy place--the art supply department! Yesterday we were sorting boxes of merchandise into categories such as paint, drawing, drafting, canvas, sketchpads, paper, and books and it made me delightedly exuberant to see the products being offered.
There is still much to do before the July 4th soft opening. The great task of putting everything where it goes has begun. It is so exciting!! I look forward to going to work tomorrow! Wow!
