For several years I've been so concentrated on becoming a better painter that it seems I must have reduced my artistic identity down to 'acrylic painter.' Lately, I've beat myself up for not painting meanwhile ignoring all other manner of artistic expression pouring out of me!
As I mentioned in my last blog, I had to remind myself of the value of my own drawings and now I have to recognize that I am practicing photography! (Maybe you've noticed I'm writing too.)
Certainly, I have learned a lot about photography over the past few months. I use my camera phone instead of a fancy camera with adjustments and lens options basically because it's always handy, and it is probably the best camera I own. It may create some limitations, but as an amateur I am fairly ignorant of other choices, so I am not bothered too much because of it.
I have learned just because I want to take a picture of something doesn't mean the sun is in the right position to do so. I've also learned how to manipulate photos somewhat with iPhoto when I took the photos anyway! To the right are some photos I took of my own art. Some are taken in the bright sunlight (the yellowy ones) the others are taken indoors. They all start out too dark and have to be lightened up and none of them are exactly true. Obviously there are many skills I need to learn, so I know why I hesitated to call myself a photographer. However, maybe after I've put in another 9,500 hours, I'll get the hang of it! |
