Q & A

Lisa Plemmons Harrison Caddel
What's in a name?
All my names are special to me because they represent my most important relationships.
My given name is Lisa, meaning consecrated to God.
I was born into the creative Plemmons family, and I've been making artwork since I was a wee one.
It is my honor to be mom to three precious kids named Harrison.
Caddel is my husband's name and my last name. (I mean it!)
Plemmons and Harrison are now my middle names and are abbreviated PH.
My artwork is signed either PLEMMONS or Lisa PHC.
What medium do you use?
In 1983 I began painting with acrylics. It is my favorite medium so far, although I also enjoy drawing with colored pencils and markers. Generally I paint on gallery wrapped canvas that is 3/4" deep. Older works may have stapled edges, some newer work is on deeper canvases, and some paintings are on paper, gesso board, canvas or wood panels or unstretched canvas.
Many of my paintings are bright, colorful, simple and symbolic. Since 2009 my work has become more textural as I explore different acrylic products. A couple of my favorites so far are crackle paste (I've had some cool successes and some spectacular failures) and glass bead gel. I've also had fun learning to use interference and iridescent paints.
What are you trying to accomplish?
That is a tough one. I'm still working that out but until then -- The intent of my artwork is to create beauty and intrigue, to delight and uplift the spirit, and serve as a reminder of joy and hope. The subjects I express are the ones I study and practice including faith, relationships, characters, nature, and healing.

Where are you and where have you been?
Presently, I reside in Southern California. I was born here and have lived here off and on for more than half my life. For about 15 years of my youth, I had the pleasure of living in and near Birmingham, Alabama. It was there I began formal training as an artist in the early 1980's. I moved back to SoCal before the end of that decade. During the mid 2000's I spent four years in the mystical Southwest corner of Colorado which deeply nourished my artistic spirit. Now I live back in Burbank, CA and I am honored to be the current President of the Burbank Art Association.
