Diamonds
This is work from 2010 when I began experimenting with texture. The series was inspired by driving in Los Angeles traffic in the carpool lane, also known as 'the diamond lane.' It started out as an expression of the Southern California experience, the fast lane, and the journey together, and expanded into the exploration of the diamond symbol as wealth, abundance, treasure, sparkle, heritage, and grace.
These are small pieces. Some of the first created in the Diamond Lane series.
Diamond Evolution24 x 18 x 1 1/2
This beautiful painting has an iridescent quality that changes with the light and angle. This painting was featured on a full page of a six page spread of my artwork in the summer issue of In Frame Visual Arts Magazine. It was also included in the Open Call LA 2011 Exhibit at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. You can read about the making of this piece here, here, and here. It seems to evoke an emotional response. Recently I was asked what it represents, I answered 'hope.' Diamonds are created under pressure. They are changed. They rise from the darkness, reflect and transmit brilliant light. |
Heritage16 x 12
Also featured with a full page in In Frame Visual Arts Magazine. This little painting reminds me of so many things, such as living in the rural southwest, native Americans, Southern quilts, my ancestors, and treasures of my heart. I see feathers, a golden cross, grasses and varieties of terrain. It includes metallic and iridescent paints |
Diamond in the RoughThis painting was inspired by my friend and former neighbor, Amanda Ryan who, with her family, runs Fresh Start Horse Rescue.
This acrylic painting is on a hefty 24 x 24 x 1.5 gallery wrapped canvas. 25% of the sale price will be donated to Fresh Start Horse Rescue.
